چکیده

In the present work, the general purpose radiation transport MCNPX code (version 2.5.0) was used to evaluate the neutron fluence response matrix of the passive Bonner sphere spectrometer recently developed in our laboratory. The calculations were performed for an extended neutron incidence energy range (from 10−9 MeV to 1 GeV). Afterward, a sensitivity analysis of the main parameters affecting the neutron fluence response of each detector-sphere assembly has been undertaken and complementary MCNPX simulations of bare gold foils considering normal, parallel and isotropic neutron incidence directions are also presented. Finally, the simulated response matrix was experimentally validated with a 252Cf standard radioactive source available in our facilities.

Neutron spectrometry with Bonner Spheres for area monitoring in particle accelerators.

Selecting the instruments to determine the operational quantities in the neutron fields produced by particle accelerators involves a combination of aspects, which is peculiar to these environments: the energy distribution of the neutron field, the continuous or pulsed time structure of the beam, the presence of other radiations to which the neutron instruments could have significant response an...

Passive neutron area monitor with CR39

Background: In high-intensity, mixed and pulsed neutron fields the use of spectrometers or area monitors with active detectors is useless in these conditions neutron measuring devices must have a passive detector. Here a passive neutron area monitor with CR39 track detector was designed and the response was calculated. Materials and Methods: The response of a passive neutron area monitor with C...

Characterization and utilization of a Bonner sphere set based on gold activation foils.

Bonner sphere (BS) sets which use activation foils as the central thermal neutron sensor have advantages over active BS systems in certain environments, for example, pulsed fields, or fields with high photon components. In such environments, they may be the only type of neutron spectrometer which can be used. This paper describes work, using both measurements and calculations, to validate the r...

استخراج طیف چشمه‌های نوترونی 241Am-Be و 252Cf با استفاده از سامانه طیف‌نگار کره‌های بانر

Bonner spheres system is one of the ways of measuring neutron energy distribution which is often applied in spectrometry and neutron dosimetry. This system includes a thermal neutron detector, being located in the center of several polyethylene spheres, and it is still workable due to the isotropic response of the system which in turn is derived from the spherical symmetry of moderators and the...

Design and calibration of a passive detector for separating neutron, proton and alpha particles in mixed radiation fields

In this study, calibration process was carried out for deigned new CR-39 nuclear track detector for protons, neutrons and alpha particles separately under the same etching condition. In order to aim this purpose, americium-beryllium standard source (241Am-Be) and Plexiglas phantom for neutron irradiation, brass collimators and americium standard source (241Am) for alpha irradiation and the acce...
